Days out with children in and around Pattaya

Pattaya has plenty to do with children beyond the beach. These are some of the best-known days out.
Koh Larn
Koh Larn is an island a short ferry ride from Pattaya. Ferries leave from Bali Hai pier at the south end of Walking Street. The island has several beaches, and families often hire a songthaew or motorbike taxi to reach the quieter ones. Go early on weekends, when the ferries are busy.
Nong Nooch Tropical Garden
Nong Nooch is a large garden south of Pattaya on Sukhumvit Road, in Sattahip district. It has themed gardens and shows. It is big, so plan for a full morning or longer.
The Pattaya viewpoint
The viewpoint on Pratumnak Hill looks out over Pattaya Bay. It is a short trip from the centre and is best in the late afternoon. The large seated Buddha at Wat Phra Yai is nearby.
The Sanctuary of Truth
The Sanctuary of Truth in Naklua is a large building made almost entirely of carved wood. Construction began in 1981 and work on it continues. Children usually enjoy watching the carvers.
Beaches
Jomtien beach is long and usually quieter than Pattaya beach. Check the flags before swimming, and keep in mind that jet skis and speedboats use many beaches.
Planning at a glance
| Place | Getting there | Time to allow |
|---|---|---|
| Koh Larn | Ferry from Bali Hai Pier, about 45 minutes; speedboats are quicker | A full day, or a long half day |
| Nong Nooch Tropical Garden | By car or taxi south along Sukhumvit Road | Half a day |
| Sanctuary of Truth | A short taxi ride to Naklua | One to two hours |
| Pattaya viewpoint, Pratumnak Hill | Between central Pattaya and Jomtien | Under an hour |
Practical notes
Take water, sun cream and hats, especially from March to May. Many attractions are open-air, so plan rainy-season trips for the morning.
